Final Blog Post

Why do we Need Music? My final blog project today will be about why people need music. I think my overall reasoning that a person needs music is to feel better, as well as stay focused or feel calm. I know many people that use different types of music depending on how they feel, there is definitely a big difference between happy music and sad music and people use these to feel validated and better about the way they are feeling in the moment. Music communicates with people and helps their brains to feel a certain way.  According to Harvard's research, "Music listeners has higher scores for mental well-being and slightly reduced levels of anxiety and depression compared to people overall."  On the other hand, CNN shows when certain songs that are not positive songs are played, it encourages things like crime or depression.  This shows that people use music to validate as well as figure out how they should feel. I think that some people could be having a great day an...

Music and the Fictive Dream

Image
"Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" This is from the musical Hamilton  by Lin-Manuel Miranda in 2015. This is a musical about the Founding Fathers mostly about Alexander Hamilton. This musical is mostly song and does not have much dialogue compared to many other musicals. Alexander Hamilton is a man who went from an orphan in the Caribbean to being the first U.S Secretary of Treasury in the United States.  This play is amazing at using music and laughter in order to teach people about the American Revolution as well as the life of the amazing Alexander Hamilton.  This is the link to the song.  This song has an extremely strong purpose in the entirety of the musical. Alexander Hamilton gets killed in a face off against Aaron Burr. This was a huge point in history because Alexander Hamilton was a very large part of the creating of the United States government. They start this song off with some of the other founding fathers such as Washington and Jefferson...

Role of the Performer

Role of the Performer  Pentatonix  Pentatonix is a Grammy award winning group that started in 2011. This group is still actively performing, though sometimes solo and sometimes together.  While Pentatonix does have very few of their own songs, majority of the songs this group performs are all covers for other people's songs.  This provides a new voice as well as a new way of singing these songs. This group is completely acapella so they have no instruments playing for their music. It is extremely cool to hear a song that usually has instruments and then see these performers using just their voices to make these sounds.  I absolutely love Pentatonix, it is extremely creative. Seeing the amazing harmonies these individuals can make not only with each other's voices while singing but as well as using an instrument is phenomenal. I personally love this musical group and prefer them to any other groups when it comes to Christmas music. They are very talented i...

Take a Musical Trip

Take a Musical Trip Mariachi Music!! A mariachi is defined as a small Mexican musical ensemble composed of a variety of mostly stringed instruments.  Mariachi is considered a uniquely Mexican sound, representing a homegrown tradition that embraces both indigenous and foreign elements.  The mariachi orchestra emerged in the late 1700s or early 1800s in West-central Mexico. The word mariachi may have came from the Coca Indians.  The instruments used in a mariachi include a vihuela (five stringed guitar), the  guitarrĂ³n a fretless six string base guitar, a standard six string acoustic guitar, as well as violins and trumpets which usually play the melody.  Mariachi music is pretty unique with its vibrant melodies and lively rhythms. This makes this genre more than just a genre but also a cultural treasure.  These instruments all create very harmonious sounds.  Examples of some Mariachi music!! Vicente Fernandez, "Por Tu Maldito Amor", 1989 Here is a...

Innovations and Evolutions

Image
Evolution of Cell From Acoustic to Electric The evolution of instruments has changed drastically in the past years compared to now. I personally always played the cello and have always loved the instrument. I remember learning about the electric cello for the first time a few years ago and was honestly pretty amazed. Therefore this is what I decided to write this blog about. Though it has been debated many times, it is decided that the cello with the sound and size we know today was dated back to the 1600s. The cello can be dated back to Northern Italy.  An Electric cello, is just like any electric version of an instrument like a guitar or violin. It can be hooked up to amplifiers to adjust the way it sounds and plays. I mostly found information on differences when having these instruments. Such as electric are not a fragile, you also don't have to worry about things like temperature that decide how the instrument will sound. When performing you can decide your own volume fo...

Musical Analysis #2

" Buy Dirt " Musical Analysis Link to my song  Here This song is made between Jordan Davis as well as Luke Bryan. Jordan Davis has a few popular songs while Luke Bryan is one of the most famous country singers ever. They made this amazing song together.  This song was released in 2021.  This song makes me feel extremely happy. It is about enjoying the smaller things in life like loving and having a family. He says to thank god for the dirt (land) you can own because he isn't ever making anymore of it. It makes me really appreciate the beautiful earth that we live on.  MUSICAL ELEMENTS Tempo-  The tempo of this song is 178 bpm. This songs tempo is pretty quick. This makes sense with the way that they are performing this song to be a happy one. It isn't super fast  but the background music behind the words is a pretty consistent quicker speed. I think this is important to make the song stay happy and upbeat versus slower and sadder.  Lyrics- ...

"Oklahoma Smokeshow" Musical Analysis LINK TO MY SONG-  HERE This song is made by Zach Bryan. He is an extremely popular artist in the country music community.  This song has 44 million plays on YouTube.  Oklahoma Smokeshow  by Zach Bryan was made in 2022 in Tennessee This song is personally very relaxing to me. It helps me to calm down. When I hear this song as well as many others by the same artist I usually think of car rides with family and friends over summer.  Musical Elements: Tempo-  the tempo of this song is 123 bpm. This is a pretty normal to quicker paced song. This is a very good tempo for this song because it is fast enough that it is a song and not just talking, but it is slow enough that you can really understand the lyrics and understand that it is a serious kind of sad song overall Lyrics- I think the lyrics are the next most important part of the song. These lyrics are very emotional as well as very powerful. This song talks about living i...
