Music and the Fictive Dream

"Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story"

This is from the musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda in 2015. This is a musical about the Founding Fathers mostly about Alexander Hamilton. This musical is mostly song and does not have much dialogue compared to many other musicals. Alexander Hamilton is a man who went from an orphan in the Caribbean to being the first U.S Secretary of Treasury in the United States.  This play is amazing at using music and laughter in order to teach people about the American Revolution as well as the life of the amazing Alexander Hamilton.

This is the link to the song.

This song has an extremely strong purpose in the entirety of the musical. Alexander Hamilton gets killed in a face off against Aaron Burr. This was a huge point in history because Alexander Hamilton was a very large part of the creating of the United States government. They start this song off with some of the other founding fathers such as Washington and Jefferson talking about how genius and amazing Hamilton was. This means a lot to this song because Jefferson and Hamilton usually did not get along. We then learn that this song is based off of Alexander Hamilton's wife Eliza. She spoke to the country about Hamilton and made sure his name was never forgotten. She read all of his papers that he wrote as well as interviewed every solider that Hamilton worked with during the war. She told his story and made sure everyone knew that he helped to make history. This is a heartwarming song because it shows us that the man that we grew to know well and saw his amazing accomplishments would not get forgotten or lose credit for what he did in history.

I think you choose a great song to highlight! This song was so heart warming and in my opinion was one of my favorite song in the musical.
